Welcome Reader,
They say April Showers Bring May Flowers and that couldn't be more true from where I write to you in Midtown, New York City. As the days go by, the bright yellow Forsythias demand more warranted attention. On a gloomy day in New York, these bright yellow shrubs were the highlight of my morning.
The only constant in life is change: everlasting metamorphosis, growing and evolving with time. This blog will be the same.
I will be discussing all things holistic health & wellness, and see where that takes us.
You may be wondering, "What is holistic health?”
The American Psychological Association's Dictionary of Psychology defines “holistic health’ as a concept that medical practice, in the prevention and treatment of disease, should focus on the whole person - including physical, mental, spiritual, social and environmental aspects - rather than the disease symptoms alone”.

It continues, “Major features of Holistic Health include patient education about behavioral and attitudinal changes that promote and maintain good health and well-being, and patient self-help and participation in the healing process through diet, exercise, and other measures.”
In short, topics covered here will include but are not limited to: nutrition & recipes, fitness & movement, habit hacks & discipline, balance & mindset, and overall well being.
Health is wealth. You’ll hear me say it once, and a thousand times moreover. There is nothing richer than a life full of energy, and the ability to move about this earth however you please.
90 years old and doing cartwheels?
Why not?!
This blog exists as a space to share helpful and healthful information to educate on the power we have to take control of our health and of our lives.
Everyday is full of choices. We have the power to make decisions that compound into healthy days, which in turn become healthy lives.
Urdae Wellness was born from my passion of health and wellness, obsession of educating myself on the topics, personal experiences which provided perspective, and the desire to share it with others.
Derived from the ancient Greek word ‘Eudaemonia’ and the latin aphorism ‘Carpe Diem’ meaning “Seize the Day”, Urdae Wellness Inc. was born. [Pronounced ‘Your Day’]
Everyday is a new opportunity to make choices that embody the person you want to become. Everyday presents the chance to “Make it Urdae”. Each individual has it within them to achieve their goals, it is my desire to help them see this. We only have one body. To be the best we can be, we need to take care of the only home we will ever know.
Sticking to the theme of spring, it is my hope for you to care for yourself now, for the sake of disease prevention, rather than future disease management.
Nutrigenomics, is the study of how nutrition affects genetic expression, or how food influences genes in different ways. How you eat, and other characteristics of your lifestyle directly impact which genes are ‘turned off or on’.
According to Dr. Mark Hyman, the quality of your food, your movement, and mental health contributes to gene regulation. Although some genes could predispose you to certain aliments, it is not carved into the wall. You have the power to write your story with the choices you make.
“Ninety percent of our current health is controlled by the environment in which we bathe our genes – the food we eat, our exercise regimen, our resilience in the face of stress and our exposure to environmental toxins. You don’t have to sit back and accept that you’re doomed to become fat and sick.” , Dr. Mark Hyman
Your future is malleable. Yes, family history can play a part in your health, but it is you who writes the rules to which genes are “turned on” by your lifestyle and daily decisions.
The goal is not to wait until a disease demands your attention to take action on prioritizing your health, like the bright yellow forsythias, luring my eyes up from my notebook.
Patience, and Fortitude are the names of the two steadfast Lions, guarding the New York Public library on 5th avenue. Channel these qualities in your journey, in the pursuit of improving your likelihood of living a life like these marble structures: strongly standing the test of time. Or maybe you have lofty goals like me, and would like to cartwheel the test of time. Either way, I’m happy you’re here.
Thank you for subscribing! I’d love to hear from you. Any feedback, requests or questions are warmly welcomed.
Well Wishes,
Jillian
